Memorandum of Understanding on economic, scientific and technical co-operation in the field of agriculture between the Government of the Republic of Turkey and the Government of the Syrian Arab Republic.

The aim of this Memorandum of Understanding is to enhance economic, scientific and technical co-operation in the field of agriculture between Turkey and Syria. The contracting parties agree to co-operate on breeding drought-resistant cereal, producing vegetable seeds and fruit saplings, increasing agricultural products trade with one and other, promoting agricultural investment, exchanging knowledge, experts and scientific material and transferring technology. The parties further agree to establish co-operation on improvement works against drought, desertification, salinity and forest loss, organize training programs and technical assistance in the field of cereals, cotton, legumes, variety improvement, artificial insemination, embryo transfer and biotechnology, to organize training and study tours mutually on plant and animal genetic resources protection and conservation, establish technical co-operation on genetic resources protection and conservation in ovine and bovine animal husbandry , exchange know-how on mushroom seed production within the scope of inter-regional co-operation program, to promote organic agriculture in favorable lands in Turkish-Syrian border, organic pistachio and olive production and transfer knowledge on the implementation of agricultural support systems. To monitor and review the implementation of the co-operation under this Memorandum of Understanding the parties will establish an Agricultural Steering Committee, composed of members from each country. The Memorandum of Understanding is for a period of five years.
