Abstract
This Regulation sets forth the procedures and principles for identifying, registering and monitoring sheep and goats. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs is responsible for all activities related to the identification, registration and monitoring of such animals. The Regulation also specifies the responsibilities and obligations of the General Directorate of Protection and Control and local offices of the Ministry, as well as animal owners. Further provisions deal with the identification of animals in slaughterhouses. Animals without the prescribed evidencing documents may not be slaughtered. Similarly, managers of animal markets must ensure that animals brought in for sales are properly identified and have proper movement certificates. The Identification and registration system includes: (i) ear tags; (ii) records kept in the operations; (iii) movement certificates; and (iv) a computerized database. Animals imported from non-European Union countries must be identified in accordance with this Regulation within 14 days as of the end of their quarantine period.
