Abstract
This Regulation lays down procedures and principles for foods and food ingredients treated with ionizing radiation, application to place irradiated foods on the market, and inspection. In this regard, this Regulation sets forth provisions on the sources of ionizing radiation, licensing and registration of irradiation facilities, labeling, transportation and storage of foodstuffs treated with ionizing radiation. Food operators are obliged to provide traceability at all stages of raw material supply, import, export, production, processing and placing on the market of irradiated food and food ingredients. In case of violation of the provisions of this Regulation, administrative sanctions in the scope of the Law No. 5996 on veterinary services, plant health, food and feed shall be implemented. This Regulation is drafted in line with the Directive 1999/2/EC on the irradiation of foods and food ingredients and Directive 1999/3/EC on the establishment of a Community list of foods and food ingredients treated with ionizing radiation.
