Waste Management Regulations (Cap. 35.08.1).

These Regulations establish a comprehensive offence, enforcement, and penalty framework for littering and waste management in Tuvalu. They define key waste-related terms, incorporate obligations under relevant international conventions on hazardous waste and environmental protection, and apply to both individuals and corporations with graduated penalties for repeat offences. The Regulations prohibit littering, unlawful dumping, pollution, improper use of waste receptacles, unsafe burning of waste, and the mishandling of hazardous and specified wastes, while imposing duties on landowners and occupiers to prevent and control litter. Additionally, the regulations provide enforcement mechanisms, including inspection powers, penalties, and fines for non-compliance. They promote environmentally sound waste practices such as waste reduction, safe disposal methods, and proper operation of landfills and other disposal facilities.
