Abstract
The 25 regulations carry, inter alia, the following titles: Construction and facilities of an abbatoir (3); Records (6); Inspection and slaughter (7); Restriction on animals and admission of carcasses to abattoirs (8); Restriction on entry of persons into abbatoirs (9); Protective clothing (10); Handling of meat and meat products (13); Use of abattoir (14); Restriction on hygienic conduct (15); Inspection procedure (17); Detailed bacteriological examination (18); Evidence of disease (21); Restriction on removal of carcase or part thereof from abattoir (22); Detention and seizure (23); Branding of carcasses (25).
No abbatoir shall be used unless constructed and approved in accordance with requirements set out in the Fifth Schedule (reg. 3[1]). Facilities to be provided by the occupier of an abattoir are listed in regulation 3[2]. Regulation 7 provides for a antemortem and postmortem inspection of slaughter animals in accordance with rules set out in Part I and II of the Third Schedule. Schedules: list of export slaughterhouses (1); Fees for inspection services (2); Inspection procedure and duties of meat inspector (3); Duties of meat inspector (4); Equipment and instruments for slaughterhouses (5); Details of records (6).
