Abstract
This Act concerns the administration of and control on petroleum operations in Tanzania and assigns for this purpose duties to the Minister responsible for petroleum matters and the Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA). The Act shall apply to the trade in and handling of petroleum and petroleum products but not to exploration, development and production of petroleum.
Prior to the issue of a licence for operations under this Act, the applicant shall comply with all necessary environmental requirements as provide for under the Environmental Management Act. The EWURA shall develop a classification of petroleum operations for environmental impact assessment purposes. Some provisions of this Act concern the production and blending of biofuel. The Act grants powers to the Minister to regulate the use of food crops and land for the production of biofuel.
