Law No. 2047-VIII amending Law No. 2918-III on potable water and potable water supply.

This Law gives a new wording for the definition of potable water as follows: "Potable water shall be considered water intended for human consumption (water supply, bottled, from pump rooms, bottling points, mine wells and tapping springs), for use by consumers for physiological, sanitary and hygienical, household and economic needs, as well as for the production of commodities requiring it use, which composition according to organoleptic, microbiological, parasitological, chemical, physical and radiation indicators meets hygienic requirements. Potable water is not considered to be a food product in the potable water supply system and at points of potable water quality control". It establishes that the subjects of in the sphere of potable water, potable water supply system and sewerage system shall be state bodies competent in the sphere of water supply and sewerage, local government, potable water supply and centralized sewerage enterprises, and customers of potable water and/or sewerage services. It also outlines approximation of the requirements of national standards for potable water, potable water supply and sewerage, potable water technologies, sewage treatment standards, as well as measurement and assessment methods to the relevant standards, norms, technologies, tools and methods adopted in the European Union.
