Regulation
Abstract
These Regulations establish a formal Infant and Young Child Nutrition Committee that oversees enforcement. Its functions include advising on licensing, monitoring compliance, and overseeing educational and promotional practices around infant foods. To regulate marketing, the Regulations require any company to obtain a licence before marketing “prescribed products” (breast‑milk substitutes, complementary foods, etc.). They appoint inspectors with legal powers to inspect premises, seize non-compliant products, and enforce the rules. Donations of infant-food products, equipment, or grants from manufacturers to health workers or facilities are strictly regulated or prohibited. Information, education materials, and labelling of infant nutrition products must be factual, censored if necessary, and comply with specific warning or precaution texts. Minimum nutritional and safety standards for these products are prescribed, and violations lead to offences and penalties, including fines or injunctions. The text consists of 24 Articles and 2 Schedules.
