Abstract
This Act establishes the Uganda Tea Growers Corporation and defines its objectives, functions and powers. It also makes provision for the registration of tea growers and provides some rules relative to cultivation of tea.
The Corporation shall, among other things: prepare overall plans for the development of the tea industry; encourage the formation of associations of tea growers into cooperative societies; be involved in tea processing, inspection and marketing. The Corporation may, with the approval of the Minister, impose levies on tea growers for the purposes of financing the operations of the Corporation and for such other purposes as the Minister may approve.
No person may plant tea plants on any land unless registered with the Corporation as a tea grower and no person may, in areas set out in the Second Schedule, establish, operate, maintain or extend a tea seed garden or tea nursery unless in possession of a permit issued by the Board of the Corporation. The Board may give directions to tea growers for purposes of preventing the spreading of plant diseases.
