Abstract
Part 17 implements the Endangered Species Act of 1973, and therefore provides for identifying those species of wildlife and plants determined by the Director to be endangered or threatened with extinction. The Regulations apply only to endangered and threatened wildlife and plants. This Subpart A provides definitions of relevant terms including: Alaskan native; native articles of handicrafts and clothing; bred in captivity; conservation Plan; conserved habitat area; endangered species; threatened species. The Regulations contain provisions relating to importation of endangered and threatened wildlife, in compliance with the content of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES); provide exemptions concerning Alaskan natives, and raptors; and describe permit applications and information collection requirements.
