Abstract
This Act establishes conditions for protection of dolphins by ocean vessels when harvesting tuna with purse seine nets. It provides labelling standards for tuna products that are exported from or offered for sale in the United States, and it sets the penalty for noncompliance with these requirements. The Secretary, in consultation with the Secretary of the Treasury, shall issue Regulations to implement this Act, including regulations to establish a domestic tracking and verification program that provides for the effective tracking of tuna labelled under this Act. The Act furthermore requires tuna products to be labelled as "dolphin save". One of the requirements concerns a statement by the captain of the tuna vessel or the an observer approved by the International Dolphin Conservation Program.
