Abstract
This National Action Plan on Prevention and Control of Antibiotic Resistance in the Agricultural Sector for the period of 2021-2025 is a sectoral policy document. The overall objective of the Plan is: Reducing the risk of antibiotic resistance to the community through the management of antibiotic use and control of antibiotic resistance in agriculture in Vietnam.
In order to achieve the overall objective of the Plan, specific objectives are identified, including: 1. Strengthening capacity for antibiotic and antibiotic resistance management including policy mechanisms, development of data management system on antibiotics and antimicrobial resistance in industry, prudent/responsible use of antibiotics in animal husbandry, aquaculture and farming. 2. To strengthen the system and annually organize the implementation of surveillance to detect antibiotic-resistant bacteria, identify and warn about the prevalence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria in animal husbandry, aquaculture and cultivation to serve as a basis for Department proposes management solutions to minimize the risk of antibiotic resistance; build at least one reference laboratory on antibiotic resistance in agriculture at central level. 3. Improve and implement Good Practices in animal husbandry, aquaculture and cultivation to minimize the infection and spread of antibiotic-resistant microorganisms in agricultural production. 4. Raise awareness about antibiotic use and antibiotic resistance in livestock, aquaculture and crop production. 5. Strengthen interdisciplinary and international cooperation in research, use of antibiotics and prevention of antibiotic resistance in a one health approach.
Activities relating to prevention and control of antibiotic resistance in the agricultural sector are proposed in the Plan: 1. Improve mechanisms, policies and law enforcement on antibiotic management and antibiotic resistance through developing guidelines for the use of antibiotics in animal husbandry, aquaculture and cultivation for livestock, aquaculture and key crops, inspecting and examining the implementation of the management of antibiotic use in localities, etc. 2. Strengthen the system and organize the implementation of surveillance of antibiotic resistance and use of antibiotics in animal husbandry, aquaculture and cultivation by developing a program to monitor antibiotic residues in products of animal origin (terrestrial and aquatic), implementing a program to monitor antibiotic residues in products of animal origin (terrestrial and aquatic), etc.
