Abstract
This Decree provides for measures to manage biosafety of genetically modified organisms (GMOs), genetic specimens and products of GMOs.
The Decree provides for principles of assessment of risk of GMOs, responsibility for management of risk of GMOs to the environment, biodiversity and health of humans and domestic animals and for the assay of GMOs.This latter will serve as a basis for the grant of biosafety certificates and a written certification of GMOs’ eligibility for use as food or animal feed. Competences, orders and procedures for the grant of these certificates are set out in the text.
In addition, the Decree provides for conditions for the production, trade, import, export, transportation and storage of GMOs and their products.
The Decree further provides for: scientific research and technological development regarding GMOs and their products; requirements and conditions of genetically modified organism laboratories; conditions for the accreditation of genetically modified organism-assaying institutions; competences, orders and procedures for the grant of licences for the assay of GMOs; information on GMOs and their products; etc.
