Abstract
This Act regulates the exportation of meat. Meat is defined in section 2. Premises shall be used as an export slaughterhouse unless the premises are licensed as such by the Director of Agriculture, Forests, Fisheries and Meteorology under this Act. No license shall be granted unless the Director is satisfied that not less than twenty-five percent of the meat derived from stock slaughtered in the slaughterhouse during the period for which the license is granted or renewed is intended for export. Plans and specifications for the establishment of export slaughterhouses shall be approved by the Director in accordance with section 5. Section 7 sets out conditions for approval of export slaughterhouses. The Director has also certain discretionary powers with respect to issuing or renewal of licenses. Sections 12 and 13 set out various requirements of hygienic and administrative nature regarding operations in export slaughterhouses. Also export packing houses and canneries are to be licensed (sect. 14) and meat export stores be approved by the Director (sect. 19). Section 18 sets out conditions in respect of export of meat. Inspectors appointed under section 20 may prohibit use of non-sanitary premises.
