Animal Health Act (No. 7 of 2002).

The Act concerns the health of any mammal, bird, fish, reptile or amphibian which is a member of the phylum vertebrates, including the carcass thereof. The Minister must designate an officer of the department who is a veterinarian as national executive officer (sect. 3). The national executive officer exercises the powers conferred on him or her and performs the duties imposed upon him or her by or under this Act subject to the control and directions of the Minister. No person may export any animal or thing from the Republic unless the national executive officer has issued an export health certificate to such person (sect. 8). The national executive officer may establish quarantine stations for the accommodation of any imported animal and declare quarantine camps under section 11. Other provisions of the Act deal with disposal of straying animals, issuing of Directives by the national executive officer to owners of land or animals, assumption of control over land, animals or things by the national executive officer, animal health schemes, duties of owners and users regarding health of animals, powers to enter, search and to carry out inspections and controlled veterinary procedures, etc. (32 sections completed by one Schedule)
