List of terrestrial and freshwater species that are threatened or protected, restricted activities that are prohibited, and restricted activities that are exempted. Government Notice no. 3012 of 2023.

This Ministerial Notice, made in terms of sections 56 (1), 57 (2), 57 (4) and 58 of the National Environmental Management: Biodiversity Act, No. 10 of 2004, provides for publishing a list of terrestrial species and freshwater species that are threatened or protected; prohibiting restricted activities; exempting persons from certain restricted activities; repealing previous lists of species. The Notice concerns: elephant ivory; rhinoceros horns; wild specimen; registered game farms; bird species; reptile species; conservation purposes; scientific purposes; finished part or product of dead specimen of a listed threatened or protected species; veterinary purposes, including: applying a medical procedure; freshwater fish species. Matters covered by this Notice include: general exemptions in relation to: the veterinary activity, export or re-export of a specimen, specific restricted activities relating to the species, including: hunting, catching.
