Abstract
These Regulations introduce an emergency suspension of the fishing for abalone Haliotis and establish measures for the protection of wild abalone Haliotis and for the recovery and rebuilding of the stock of this marine aquatic animal species.
The Regulations: prohibit diving in areas listed in the Schedule to these Regulations; prohibit the having in possession in listed areas of gear to be used for the harvesting of wild abalone; and requires persons engaged in specified fishing activities or other activities in listed areas to apply for a permit to the Minister so as to legalize the possession of prohibited gear in the listed areas.
