Abstract
These Regulations of the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries set the minimum standards applicable to maize products that are destined for sale in the Republic of South Africa. They place restrictions on the sale of maize products produced in or imported into South Africa and placed on the domestic market. The Regulations also define quality classes and grades for maize products and quality standards for each class and grade, prescribe rules relative to packing and labelling of maize products and make provision for sampling, testing and inspection of maize products. "Maize product" means a commodity derived from the processing of maize and which includes enriched, fortified and pre-cooked maize meal but excluding an industrial grade maize product, i.e. a maize product other than a maize product intended for industrial processing. No person shall sell a consignment of maize products in the Republic of South Africa - (a) unless the maize products are sold according to prescribed grades; (b) unless the maize products comply with the specifications regarding quality;(c) unless such maize products are packed in a container and marked in the manner as prescribed. the Regulations also concerning sampling and testing of maize products.

The provisions of these regulations shall be in addition to and not in substitution for regulations published under the Foodstuffs, Cosmetics and Disinfectants Act, 1972 (Act No. 54 of 1972) and Trade Metrology Act 1973 (Act No, 77 of 1973).
