Abstract
This Act provides for the rationalisation of certain laws relating to water matters that remained in force in various areas of the national territory of the Republic by virtue of section 229 of the Constitution; amends the Rand Water Board Statutes (Private) Act, 1950, so as to authorize the Rand Water Board to render water supply and sanitation services; amends the Water Act, 1956, so as to redefine certain expressions; makes certain provisions of the Water Act applicable to the Rand Water Board; authorizes the Minister and water boards to render water supply and sanitation services; provides for the establishment and functioning of local water supply and sanitation committees; further regulates the financial year of a water board; amends the Water Act 1988 (Bophuthatswana), so as to define, redefine or delete certain expressions; amends the Boputhatswana Water Supply Authority Act, 1988, so as to further regulate the composition of the Boputhatswana Water Supply Authority Board; further regulates the term of office of the members of the said Board; further regulates the quorum at meetings of the said Board; authorizes the Boputhatswana Water Supply Authority to render water supply and sanitation services; replaces the short title of the Act, and changes the names of the said Board and Authority; and provides for the functioning of the said Authority in an extended area of jurisdiction; makes provision that water boards may function in certain areas of the territory of the former Republic of Boputhatswana; and provides for matters connected therewith."
