Abstract
This Act establishes the Food Reserve Agency, defining its powers and functions which relate primarily to the administration of the national food reserve (also created by this Act in Part III), the regulation of food commodities markets and the promotion of weighing and grading standards for food commodities. The Act also transfers to the Government certain assets, rights, liabilities and obligations of the Nitrogen Chemicals of Zambia Ltd. and of the Zambia Cooperative Federation Ltd. The President may declare a national food emergency according to section 21. Section 27 empowers the Minister to adopt further regulations pertinent to the Act. The final schedule of the Act contains administrative and financial provisions relative to the Food Reserve Agency.
