The Small and Medium Enterprises Equity Investment scheme is a voluntary initiative of the Bankers’ Committee approved at its 246th Meeting held on 21st December, 1999. The initiative was in response to the Federal Government’s concerns and policy measures for the promotion of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) as vehicles for rapid industrialisation, sustainable economic development, poverty alleviation and employment generation.

The second National Waste Management Strategy (NWMS) (DEA, 2011: 27) commits government to “provide guidance to municipalities and industry on measures to improve the working conditions of waste-pickers”. Government has undertaken a number of activities to fulfil this mandate.

ASSO-MER created BIM (Maritime Intervention Brigade) in 2017 who’s main objective is to collect underwater and coastal waste from all over Martinique in order to reduce their impact on the marine environment (including fishing gear abandoned or lost at sea).
