Welcome to the official page of the online segment of the First Global Meeting of National Focal Points under the Fifth Programme for the Development and Periodic Review of Environmental Law.

During the first segment of the First Global Meeting that was online from 2-4 June 2021, national focal points took decisions and provided guidance to UNEP on relevant institutional arrangements for the programme and identified initial priorities for implementation in the field of environmental rule of law.

The second segment of the First Global Meeting will be held in a hybrid format from 6 - 9 June 2022, with in-person attendance at the United Nations Office in Nairobi, Kenya. More information about the in-person segment is available here.

Note on COVID-19: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the meeting initially scheduled for 23-25 March 2020 in Rio de Janeiro was postponed. On 15 October 2020, the secretariat advised national focal points that it was actively monitoring the situation and would, if necessary, explore and propose holding the meeting virtually or in other possible formats to ensure the necessary institutional and implementation decisions for the Programme can be taken by national focal points. On 8 December 2020, the secretariat informed participants that it planned to organize and facilitate the First Global Meeting in ‘two segments’, first virtual, followed by an in-person resumed session.
