Abstract
this Law amends and supplements article 19 of law No. 8897 of 2002 dealing with the fines issued for infringements. The fines are issued, examined and decided upon by the inspectorate responsible for the environmental protection. In addition to fines, the inspectorate can also issue complimentary sanctions such as suspension of activities and definitive closure of operations. The term ‘Inspectorate of Environmental Protection’ is replaced with ‘Inspectorate responsible for the environment protection’.
The Law consists of the following Chapters: (1) General provisions; (2) Indicators of air quality; (3) Restraints on discharges in the air; (4) Obligations to protect the air; (5) Parts of the country under special protection; (6) Notifications; (7) Environmental permits for air polluting activities; (8) Tax pollution levies; (9) Sanctions against polluters.
