Law No. 8405 on urban planning.

There is hereby established the legislative framework in matter of urban planning, taking into particular account the economic and social development at the national and local levels and the protection of the environment. All constructions within the national territory shall be based upon regional and environmental urban planning studies, master plans and general adjustment plans.
The Law consists of the following Chapters: (I) Definitions; (II) General provisions; (III) Competences of the State organs in the field of urban planning; (IV) Management of land without constructions; (V) Constructions in tourism areas; (VI) Management of areas and territories of peculiar cultural, environmental, archeological and strategical values; (VII) Illegal construction and arbitrary occupation of the site; (VIII) Sanctions.
