Abstract
The purpose of the present Ordinance by the Federal Minister for Agriculture and Forestry, Environment and Water Resources is: 1) to reduce the environmental impact of batteries during their whole life cycle; 2) the prevention of waste from batteries, and in case this is not avoidable, to aim at the recycling of such waste on behalf of all interested parties, i.e. producers, retail sellers, consumers and recycling enterprises; 3) the separate waste collection of batteries;4) to ensure a high level of recycling of old batteries; 5) the reduction of the use of harmful materials in the production of batteries in order to contribute to the protection of health of human beings and to avert hazard to human life. The text consists of 28 articles divided into 7 Parts as follows: General provisions (1); Batteries for equipments (2); Batteries for motor vehicles (3); Batteries for industry (4); Collection and recycling systems and coordination (5); Registration and duty to report (6); Final provisions (7).
