Abstract
This Act, consisting of 98 sections divided into nine Parts and completed by two Schedules, aims at promoting efficiency and competition in the electricity supply industry, promoting the establishment and maintenance of a safe and efficient system of electricity generation, transmission, distribution and supply, and at establishing and enforcing proper standards of safety, reliability and quality in the electricity supply industry.
The Act contains provisions regarding: functions and powers of the Essential Services Commission, the technical regulator and of the Consumer Advisory Committee (Part 2); electricity supply industry and on the licensing of electricity entities (Part 3); electricity entities’ powers and duties (Part 4); clearance from vegetation from powerlines (Part 5); undergrounding of powerlines (Part 5A); safety and technical issues (Part 6); enforcement (Part7); reviews and appeals (Part 8); etc.
