Abstract
The National Environment Protection Council is established pursuant to the Intergovernmental Agreement on the Environment entered into by the Commonwealth, the States, the Australian Capital Territory and the Australian Local Government Association. The 64 sections of this Act are divided into 7 Parts, i.e.: Preliminary (1); Establishment and membership of the National Environment Protection Council (2); Functions and powers of the Council (3); Meetings of the Council and establishment and meetings of its committees (4); NECP service corporation, NECP executive officer and staff (5); Finance (6); Miscellaneous (7).
The Council shall: (a) make national environment protection measures in accordance with division 2; and (b) assess and report on the effectiveness, in participating jurisdictions, of national environment protection measures. The Council may vary any national environment protection measure if in accordance with sections 22A. (completed by one Schedule)
