Abstract
This Act, consisting of 78 sections divided into eight Parts and completed by four Schedules, provides for the conservation and protection of the fauna, flora and geological diversity of Tasmania and for the declaration of national parks and other reserved land.
The Act empowers the Secretary of the Department of Primary Industries, Water and Environment to reserve and acquire land as conservation areas, and to grant special permits authorizing the taking or possession of specified wildlife, wildlife products or protected plants.
The Act further provides for: prohibition on introduction of certain animals; conservation covenants; powers of any authorized officer to enter and search any premises; aboriginal cultural activities on Aboriginal land; offences and penalties; etc.

Entry into force notes
