Abstract
This Act, consisting of 28 sections, provides for the statute relating to conservation and legal protection of flora and fauna.
Under the Act, individual species of plants and animals are protected, with the level of protection varying depending on whether or not the species is specifically recognized as rare. The Act prohibits the taking and possession of protected fauna whose property along with protected flora is vested in the Crown. Certain dealings in fauna may be authorized by obtaining a licences as set out in the text. Licences may also be issued for processing fauna and carrying on processing establishments and for taking protected flora on Crown land.
The Act further provides for: royalties payable to the Crown for skins of fauna; powers of wildlife officers; taking and sale of protected flora on private land; declaration by the Minister of rare or endangered species of flora; offences; etc.
