Abstract
This Regulation determines the minimum zoo-hygiene and generic technical requirements for the protection and welfare of farm animals on the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria, to be applied on all live animals raised on farms or animal holdings, including animals for which exist specific requirements governed by separate legislation; the obligations of the owners of livestock, also in relation to the fulfillment of such requirements.
This text further set the obligations of veterinary authorities related to the control over the effective compliance.
These rules are not meant for: wild animals living in the wild; animals used for sports purposes, competitions, exhibitions or cultural events; experimental animals; invertebrate animals.
Owners of farm animals should raise their animals in a way that protects them from harmful effects and does not cause them pain, suffering or injury; raise, breed and use their animals according to the physiological and ethological characteristics of their species, category and age, considering their degree of domestication.
For generic provisions on slaughtering, killing and euthanasia of farm animals see article 10.

Entry into force notes
This Regulation enters into force on 1 May 2006, with the exception of articles 17, 18 and 19 that shall enter into force on 1 May 2007.
