Abstract
The Regulation makes provision for the detection, limitation and prevention of water pollution caused by nitrates from agricultural sources. Moreover, it establishes measures for the restoration of water quality. The text of the Regulation is divided into five Chapters, Additional, Transitional and Final Provisions and one Annex. The Chapters deal with the following: general requirements (1); powers and duties of the competent authorities (2); identification of waters and water bodies already or potentially polluted by nitrates (3); pollution prevention (4); monitoring requirements (5). All definitions are given in the additional provisions. The Annex describes good agricultural practices.
