Abstract
This Decree, consisting of 71 articles divided into nine Chapters, provides for the adoption of sanitary measures for animal health protection. The adoption of animal health protection measures within the State of Rio Grande do Sul has the following objectives: to combat, prevent, control and eradicate diseases; to organize, coordinate and execute animal health and surveillance actions, integrating them into the Unified System of Agricultural and Livestock Health Care (SUASA), dealt with in art. 28-A of Federal Law No. 9.712 of 20 November 1998; to stimulate, organize and coordinate community participation in animal health protection actions; and to create means to prevent the introduction of related pathogens to animal and public health within the State. Animal health protection measures shall be coordinated and implemented by the Animal Health Protection Agency of the Secretariat of Agriculture and Livestock, known as the Official Veterinary Service of the State.
