Abstract
This Law, consisting of 8 Titles divided into 211 articles, creates the State Policy on Environment and Biodiversity Protection. This Policy aims at guaranteeing the sustainable development and maintenance of environment, in all its forms, to be implemented in a decentralized, integrated and participatory way, by the adoption of technologies and mechanisms increasing the environmental efficiency in production of goods and services, in consumption and use of natural resources; guaranteeing the access to participation of rural population in decision making process; etc.

This Law enters into force 90 days after its publication.
Notes
This Law repeals all contrary provisions, in particular: Law No. 6.569 of 1994 and Law No. 7.799 of 2001.
