Abstract
This Law, consisting of 6 Chapters, regulates the new National Policy on Irrigation. It specifies requirements to be met in order to perform irrigation activity. It aims at the following: promoting the increase of irrigated land areas and related sustainable productivity; reducing the climatic risks related to livestock and agro-forestry activities, in particular within regions with low levels of rains; promoting the local and regional development, with priority to those regions with low socio-economic indicators; promoting the increase of agricultural business competitivity and income generating activity; contributing for the internal market of foodstuff, fibres and renewable energies, as well as for the exceeding agricultural inputs for exports; conducting training on new irrigation techniques; promoting private projects on irrigation, infrastructure requirements, obligations of user, land expropriation, etc. The Policy is divided as follows: Preliminary provisions (Chap. I); Principles (Chap. II); Objectives (Chap. III); Tools (Chap. IV); Irrigation system installation (Chap. V); Final provisions (Chap. VI).
