Abstract
This Law defines legal, organizational, and social principles of the protection of health of animals, the protection of human beings against illnesses that can be transmitted from animals to them, and to establishment of veterinary and sanitary standards for the production of animal products. For the purposes of this Law, shall be considered animals agricultural, domestic zoo and circus animals as well as fur animals, poultry, fish, bees and other representatives of animal kingdom. Article 1 contains definitions. Article 2 defines the main tasks of the Veterinary Service. They include: prevention and elimination of contagious and non-contagious diseases of animals, treatment of diseased animals; protection of animals against natural extremity and acts of men, securing etc. quality of animals products, fodder, etc. through control, quarantine and other importation control measures, development of veterinary science, etc. Chapter 2 outlines in detail the organizational structure of the Service. There shall be Veterinary Inspector Chiefs and Deputy Chiefs at a national level and of Oblasts, towns, and regional bodies. Their competence is defined in article 10. Chapter 4 make provision for basic measures for the prevention and elimination of animal diseases. A general duty to observe animal health protection rules and norms is defined and the requirements of permission for the introduction of animals and animal products prescribed. Further measures concern quarantine, withdrawal of animals and products, supervision of markets, control of game, etc. (29 articles)

Annexed to the text is "Decree on Procedure of Putting into Force of the Law of the Republic of Belarus "On Veterinary", which states that existing veterinary law, until it is put in line with the present Law, shall remain in force to the extent that it does not contradict the present Law.
