Abstract
The purposes of this Act are: a) to promote the reduction, reuse and recycling of waste; b) to provide for the operation of waste diversion programs; and c) to promote the orderly winding up of waste diversion programs and industry funding organizations in order to allow responsibility for waste to be governed under the Resource Recovery and Circular Economy Act, 2016 or otherwise. Section 15 establishes that the corporation Stewardship Ontario is continued and is designated as the Industry Funding Organization for: a) the waste diversion program for blue box waste; and b) the waste diversion program for municipal hazardous or special waste. The Minister shall direct this Organization to prepare a wind up plan and shall further empower a new Resource Productivity and Recovery Authority (RPRA) to approve this plan. Once approved, the wind up plan must be implemented by the afore-mentioned IFO. The text consists of 79 sections.
