Abstract
The present Law lays down provisions relating to waterworks, the water police, as well as to the enforcement of federal legislation. Furthermore, the Law shall ensure the protection of human beings and appurtenances of value against the damage resulting from water, to conserve the waters in a natural way or to arrange them in a natural way and to use them sensibly. Moreover, the present Law allocates the related powers concerning water works between the Canton, the municipalities and private parties. The Law shall be applied to all public surface waters. The text consists of 38 articles divided into 7 Parts as follows: General provisions (I); Protection against inondation (II); Maintenance and construction of waters (III); Costs (IV); Water works police (V); Miscellaneous provisions (VI); Final provisions (VII).
Entry into force notes
The present Law enters into force on 1 January 2002.
