Provisions on the Protection of Geographical Indication Products.

These Provisions are enacted by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine for the purpose of effectively protecting the products of geographical indications in the country, regulating the use of names and special signs of geographical indication products and ensuring the quality and characteristics of geographical indication products.
The “geographical indication products” as mentioned in these Provisions refer to those products which are named after geographical name after being examined and approved, which originate from a specific region, and whose quality, reputation or other characteristics depend on the natural factors and humane factors of the area of production. The geographical indication products include: (1) the products originating from the plantation and breeding of this region; (2) the products produced and processed from raw materials coming entirely from a region or partly from elsewhere according to the specific techniques of this region. The Provisions stipulate the acceptance, examination and approval of the applications for products of geographical indication, registration, supervision and management of geographical signs.
