Abstract
This Law may be cited as the Food (Control and Sale) (Amendment) Law of 2006 and shall be read as one with the Food (Control and Sale) Laws of 1996 up to 2005 (hereinafter referred to as “the principal Law”). The principal Law and the present Law shall be read as one and will be referred to as the Food (Control and Sale) Laws 1996-2006.The law is issued with the purpose of a better implementation of EU Regulations and Decisions in the food sector (Regulation (EC) No. 178/2002). Under this light, the law brings forth amendments to comply with certain provisions of the aforementioned Regulation. More specifically, articles 2, 15, 23, 23A, 23B, 23C and 25 are amended and/or replaced while the new article 5A (delegation of powers) is added. The law inserts Annex III listing down EU Regulations to which articles 23A(1), 23B(1), 23C(1a) and 25(2) make reference to, as regards the application of sanctions and penalties.
