Abstract
This Law may be cited as the Food (Control and Sale) (Amendment) (Νο. 2) Law of 2011 and shall be read as one with the Food (Control and Sale) Laws of 1996 up to 2011 (hereinafter referred to as “the principal Law”). The principal Law and the present Law shall be read as one and will be referred to as the Food (Control and Sale) Laws 1996-2011 (Νο. 2). Given that the principal law is considered a Technical Regulation, this law makes reference to Directive 98/34/EC (as was last amended by Council Directive 2006/96/EC) so as to comply with the provisions of article 12 thereto. The law is issued with the purpose of better information of consumers as regards the display and sale of foodstuffs which are genetically modified, or contain genetically modified ingredients. For this purpose, a new article is added after article 21 establishing rules for the specific indication of premises where foodstuffs genetically modified, or contain genetically modified ingredients are sold. This new article implements certain provisions of Regulation (EC) No. 1829/2003.
