Abstract
This Executive Order regulates the addition to foods, including food supplements, of substances other than vitamins and minerals that are intended to have a nutritional or physiological effect, such as amino acids, caffeine, creatine, taurine and plant-derived compounds. It establishes general authorisations, maximum permitted amounts, identity and purity standards, notification requirements, and procedures for individual authorisation or approval of new substances, while allowing the food authority to impose conditions or prohibit use on health or nutritional grounds. It also applies EU mutual-recognition rules, and provides fines and possible imprisonment for serious breaches.
