Abstract
This Act confers powers upon the Director of the Forestry and Wildlife Division of the Ministry of Agriculture, Lands and Fisheries and Forest Officers and other conservation officers to enforce laws and regulations relating to forestry. They may sell forest produce and may enter into commercial activities for the purpose of developing forest oriented enterprises or with individuals, agencies or companies and may enter into agreement with individuals, agencies or companies also for the construction of forest roads, forest nurseries, etc. Part IV gives these officials powers to arrest offenders, and to search, seize and confiscate property or equipment of offenders. Forest Officer has in this Act the meaning assigned to it by the Forest Act.
Various aspects of the Act relate to inland fisheries which are dealt with together with hunting; The Director of the Forestry and Wildlife Division and Conservation Officers shall be responsible for the administration of fishing in streams and lakes. The Director may issue fishing licences in virtue of section 48. The Conservation Officers may enter into agreement with individuals, agencies or companies also for the construction of fish hatcheries (sect. 8). Fishing equipment may be seized under section 15. Sections of second part of Part V prohibit the use of explosives and prohibit fishing in closed seasons. The Schedules specify shellfish which may either be taken during the open season (Schedule 3) or is protected (Schedule 6). Schedule 7 contains a form of a fishing licence.
