Abstract
The present Directive lays down standards applicable to certain sugars intended for human consumption. Part A of the Annex attached defines the products covered by these provisions, namely: semi-white sugar; sugar or white sugar; extra-white sugar; sugar solution; invert sugar solution; invert sugar syrup; glucose syrup; dried glucose syrup; dextrose or dextrose monohydrate; dextrose or dextrose anhydrous; fructose. Nevertheless, the Directive shall not apply to such products if they take the form of icing sugars, candy sugars or sugars in loaf form.

Council Directive 73/437/EEC of 11 December 1973 on the approximation of the laws of the Member States concerning certain sugars intended for human consumption is hereby repealed with effect from 12 July 2003.
