Abstract
This Directive amends articles 2 to 16 of Directive 90/219. Member States shall ensure that all appropriate measures to avoid adverse effects on human health and the environment which might arise from the contained use of GMMs are taken. To this end the user shall carry out an assessment of the contained uses as regards the risks to human health and the environment that these contained uses may incur. Annex I contains information on techniques of genetic modification, Annex II regards Techniques or methods of genetic modification yielding micro-organisms to be excluded from the Directive, Annex III principles to be followed for the assessment, Annex IV provisions on the normal minimum requirements and measures necessary for each level of containment and Annex V information required for the notification.
