Abstract
This Directive lays down the principles to be followed by Member States in the field of environmental criminal law. The aim is to achieve the effective protection of the environment through more dissuasive penalties for environmentally harmful activities, which typically cause or are likely to cause substantial damage to the air, including the stratosphere, to soil, water, animals or plants, including to the conservation of species.
