Abstract
This Directive lays down some amendments to Directive 1999/32/EC relating to a reduction in the sulphur content of certain liquid fuels. The amendments concern in particular the sulphur content of marine fuels. The definitions of heavy fuel oil and gas oil are amended. As regards marine fuels, the Directive stipulates that Member States must ensure that marine fuels are not used within their territory if their sulphur content exceeds 3,50 percent by mass, except for fuels supplied to ships using emission abatement methods.
