Abstract
This Order implements Community legislation relating to diseases affecting any animal of the Suidae family. It introduces measures to prevent and control such diseases: disease notification and the investigation of suspicion of disease; measures to be taken on infected premises where disease is confirmed; measures to be taken on suspicion and confirmation of disease at a slaughterhouse; measures to be taken on suspicion and confirmation of disease in feral pigs; establishment of protection zones, surveillance zones and infection zones following the confirmation of disease on any premises. The Order also prohibits vaccination against disease except in certain circumstances and makes provision relating to inspection and enforcement. An inspector must serve a notice on the occupier of premises designated as suspect premises, and Schedule 1 (Measures on suspect, contact and infected premises) applies upon service of that notice. When premises are designated as infected premises the appropriate authority must arrange for the killing of all pigs on the premises.
