Abstract
These Regulations make provisions with respect to measures to control of foot and mouth disease in Northern Ireland. They carry into effect provisions of the Council Directive 2003/85/EC on Community measures for the control of foot and mouth disease except insofar as it deals with vaccination against that disease.
The Regulations make provision, among other things, for notification and investigation of the disease and measures applying following confirmation of the disease applying also to edible products such as meat and milk. Measures include cleansing and disinfection of the premises and slaughter of animals. They also provide for protection and surveillance zones around infected premises in case of an outbreak and declaration of a restricted zone on confirmation of the disease or a wild animal infected zone on confirmation of the disease in a wild animal.
