Regulation
Abstract
These Regulations control specified risk material in respect of food. Specified risk material means specified bovine material, specified goat or sheep material or specified solid waste which may contain the agent containing bovine spongiform encephalopathy. Specifications of specified risk material are given in Regulation 4. These Regulations continue in force provisions in respect of food contained in the Bovine Material Order 1997 and the Heads of Sheep and Goats Order 1996. They implement in part Community legislation regarding BSE and the disposal of animal waste. They control the sale and use of specified risk material for human consumption (Reg. 7) and the production of mechanically recovered meat (Regs. 8 and 9). Provision is made for the initial treatment of meat and removal of certain parts of the animal are prohibited (Regs. 10, 11, 13 and 15). Regulations 16 to 19 provide for marking and other control measures with respect to sheep. The remaining regulations deal with collection of risk material, its transport and storage and destruction, and prescribe offences and penalties. (32 Regulations completed by 2 Schedules)
