Biosafety (Management of Biotechnology) Regulations, 2019 (L.I. 2383).

These Regulations implement the Biosafety Act, 2011 (Act 831) by establishing detailed institutional arrangements and procedures for the safe management of biotechnology and genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in Ghana. They define the roles and powers of the National Biosafety Authority, institutional biosafety committees, biosafety officers and principal investigators, and regulate the authorisation, monitoring, inspection and enforcement of contained use, confined use, environmental release, import, export, transit and placing on the market of GMOs. The Regulations further provide for risk assessment and management, confidentiality of information, public participation, food and feed safety, record‑keeping, biosafety clearing house obligations under the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety, appeals, cessation orders, deregulation of GMOs, and transitional arrangements.
